Summary:

The Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center welcomes applications for several tenure-eligible faculty positions. We are seeking faculty members who are conducting impactful studies with research interests in the cancer field. Preference will be given to those focusing on translational oncology, immuno-oncology & drug discovery including medicinal chemistry and structural biology. The faculty will also support the department with teaching responsibilities at the graduate level and mentoring students and/or trainees as appropriate.

Working with all cancer types, Massey conducts basic science, translational, clinical and prevention and control cancer research, provides state‑of‑the‑art treatments, and promotes cancer education and training. Since 1974, Massey has served as an internationally recognized center of excellence.

It offers one of the largest selections of cancer clinical trials in Virginia and serves patients at multiple sites throughout the state.

The mission of the Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center is to reduce the state cancer burden for all Virginians by addressing the confluence between biological, social, and policy drivers through high‑impact, cutting‑edge research; person‑centered care across the continuum, from prevention through survivorship; community integration; and training the next generation of community‑centric researchers and healthcare professionals.

Duties & Responsibilities
Teaching

The faculty member shares a deep commitment to effective instruction, creation of innovative courses and mentoring of students in research, outreach and professional development. They demonstrate leadership in developing techniques designed to meet the needs of differing learning styles and intellectual interests, especially in the context of interdisciplinary research interests that complement the program. The faculty member will contribute to the teaching mission and will be engaged in training of students and faculty and will deliver lectures, contribute to course development and implementation in the identified department.

In addition, the faculty member will mentor capstone projects of master-level students and supervise dissertation research.

Research

Contribute to VCU’s national reputation through research and scholarship (extramural funding, high quality publications, citations, and national recognition through honorific awards and committee leadership) and maintain active involvement in appropriate national or international organizations and bodies. Publish in peer-reviewed journals and submit grant applications for extramural funding in the field of translational oncology, immuno-oncology, and/or drug discovery including medicinal chemistry and structural biology.

It is expected that the faculty member will establish and maintain a vigorous, extramurally funded research laboratory.
