Special Education Teacher

Special Education Teachers are responsible for providing quality instruction that meets the needs of the student in the areas of Adult Basic Education (ABE) and General Educational Diploma (GED). Additionally, required to meet the standards defined under the Commonwealth’s statutes and program certification requirements.

Demonstrated ability to facilitate other instructors. The demonstrated ability to engage students with special needs in one-on-one teaching of all the five subjects and supervise students with special needs and aides in a classroom setting; the demonstrated ability to maintain accurate records. Knowledge and experience of policy and procedure governing adult special education. Must possess working knowledge of all facets of the basic adult and special education field, adult literacy and computer software appropriate for program needs.

Demonstrated competency in the relevant field of current licensure.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university in a relevant educational field, preferably a major or minor in special education.

Experience:

Experience teaching children with special needs is required.

Licensure:
Must possess a Collegiate Professional or Postgraduate Professional Teaching License from the Virginia Department of Education with an endorsement in Special Education or qualify for reciprocity from another state and without deficiencies. Please note you are responsible for any renewal points to maintain a teaching license under the guidelines of Virginia Department of Education to comply with the requirements for your continued employment in this position.
