HDR is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our national Power Generation team. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will join a highly capable, multi-disciplinary team that supports power and energy projects primarily within the utility, IPP, industrial, and institutional sectors. Primary duties typically involve leadership of the project mechanical team, coordination with other engineering disciplines, monitoring and communication of project status, and providing mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects on both a technical and contractual level.

- Lead the project mechanical team and coordinate with other engineering disciplines on power generation projects (simple cycle, combined cycle, distributed generation, and RICE).
- Monitor and communicate project status and provide mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects on technical and contractual levels.
- Prepare deliverables such as construction drawings, bid specifications, mechanical equipment sizing calculations, technical memos, bid evaluations, code reviews, feasibility studies, reports, and cost estimates.
- Plan, schedule, and lead design projects; mentor less experienced engineers and EITs; manage multiple concurrent assignments within schedule and budget.
- Project roles will vary and may include lead mechanical engineer, project engineering manager, or project manager, depending on project size and focus.
Preferred Qualifications
- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in power generation design.
- Gas turbine, steam turbine and/or large reciprocating engine experience or subject matter expertise.
- Design experience with simple cycle and combined cycle power generation.
- Previous experience with an engineering power consulting or EPC firm desired.
- Minimum 10 years of experience, ideally in the fossil power industry with a blend of design and owner’s engineer projects.
- Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments and strong communication and analytical skills.
- Willing to mentor less experienced engineers and EITs.
- Proficient at working within an established schedule and budget.
- Travel expectation of less than 10% for meetings with clients and vendors and site visits.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience.
- Professional Engineers (PE or P.Eng) license.
- Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software (examples include PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Auto Pipe, and Revit).

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
(Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.) The targeted salary range for this position based on experience and location is $108,661 - $204,250.
