We are seeking a Staff Engineer to join our Power Generation Operations Support Team. This senior-level role focuses on technical expertise and project leadership to support plant operations and maintenance, including boiler operations, air pollution control equipment, fuel handling, ash removal, and waste handling.
Key Responsibilities- Provide multidisciplinary engineering support and technical consultation to operations and maintenance teams, solving complex engineering challenges.
- Offer guidance on combustion of solid fuels (coal and biomass), Air Pollution Control (APC) equipment, fuel handling, boiler performance, ash removal, and waste management.
- Collaborate with fuel procurement teams during contract renewals, reviewing fuel quality, setting reject limits, and assessing fuel impact on operations and APC performance (NOx, SO?, SO?, HCl, PM, Hg).
- Support soot blowing systems, wet FGDs, dry scrubbers, Hg control systems, and potential Dry Sorbent Injection (DSI) projects.
- Advise on dispatch cost calculations to support regulatory compliance and engage with suppliers and manufacturers on technical matters.
- Manage technical, financial, and service commitments for internal and external stakeholders and conduct independent research to develop cost-effective solutions.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Minimum 8 years of relevant engineering experience (PhD in Engineering can substitute up to 5 years of experience with approval).
- Expertise in coal and biomass combustion, APC systems, and fuel handling processes.
- Strong knowledge of fuel quality, boiler operations, soot blowing, waste disposal, and environmental compliance.
- Ability to provide technical guidance to multidisciplinary teams and consult on complex engineering challenges.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, or an equivalent international degree under the Washington Accord, OR
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (non-ABET), Physics, Chemistry, Math, or Engineering Technology with a post‑graduate ABET‑accredited Engineering degree, OR
- Valid U.S. Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Exposure to cold, dust, grease/oil, fumes, heat, loud noise, energized wires, outdoors, pressurized lines & valves, and travel up to 25% of the time. Office work environment 76–100% of the time.
