Drinking Water Associate Process Engineer
Black & Veatch is hiring a mid‑senior level Process Engineer to support water treatment projects worldwide. The role is based in Richmond, Virginia and requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering and at least one year of related professional experience. 5 years of water treatment experience and advanced knowledge of conventional, brackish, seawater, and reuse processes are preferred. The position is full‑time, hybrid, and offers a competitive salary range of $69,700 – $109,700.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the preparation of engineering deliverables including mass balances, design criteria, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, trade‑off studies, and master planning studies.
- Support multiple projects simultaneously under the guidance of senior process engineers.
- Participate in applied research activities involving bench, pilot, and full‑scale testing of alternative treatment processes.
- Develop independent recommendations for treatment processes, equipment, and material selection.
- Analyze, manage, and apply data to process design work.
- Perform moderately complex engineering calculations following standard principles.
- Apply advanced engineering techniques and problem‑solving analyses to achieve project objectives.
- Communicate effectively in written and oral formats with internal and external stakeholders.
- Coordinate with project teams to ensure successful project execution.
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering.
- 5+ years of experience in water treatment and process design for municipal effluent reuse, brackish and seawater desalination, and brine management.
- Understanding of consulting, project execution, client services, and business development.
- Excellent written and oral communication, problem‑solving, and prioritization skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program.
- Minimum of 1 year of related professional experience.
- Ability to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements including background checks and drug screening.
