Position: UPS Technician 4 - Richmond, VA

Responsibilities
  • The Critical Power Group maintains, services, and troubleshoots UPS systems, batteries, and other critical infrastructure equipment.
  • Technicians are factory trained on most major UPS manufacturers (MGE/APC, Liebert, Toshiba/Mitsubishi, Powerware/Eaton, etc.).
  • Perform preventive maintenance, equipment testing, and emergency service calls at high‑profile government, institutional, and commercial facilities.
  • Provide engineering and technical support to customers and other divisions of M.C. Dean.
  • Daily travel with independent work structure.
  • Emergency call availability 24/7 unless on PTO or Off Call.
  • Maintain/safeguard company‑issued equipment, tools, and instruments.
  • Battery repair & replacement; installations and replacements.
  • Perform required preventative maintenance service to equipment under contract as scheduled.
  • Customer contact and interface.
  • Communicate availability status to corporate office, team lead, or manager.
  • Protect company proprietary information, manuals, and records.
  • Use electronic and electrical test equipment as necessary.
  • Coordinate and manage all on‑site subcontractors hired by M.C. Dean as necessary.
  • Maintain company or personal vehicle in safe and operational condition; maintain insurance as required by company.
  • Ensure work is performed to M.C. Dean Standards.
  • Complete all paperwork, including field service reports, timesheets, and expense reports, and other job‑required reports timely and accurately.
  • Provide technical support to customers upon request.
  • Maintain technical documentation for study and/or review.
  • Attend product‑specific training as company deems necessary.
  • Cross‑train other UPS technicians as needed.
  • Inspect power electronic systems and their associated controls.
  • Certify systems and components adhere to quality standards.
  • Review and check system drawings and specifications for accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide technical assistance and expertise on power electronic devices.
  • Maintain operational expertise with instruments such as digital multimeter, power analyzer, infrared camera, digital camera, insulation test equipment, EMI/EMF meters, battery test equipment, oscilloscope.
  • Require 7×24×365 availability when on call; job may require overnight travel at company expense.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Controls
  • Work is performed under general supervision of regional managers and team leads.
  • Technician receives assignments in terms of schedules, priorities, and general instructions.
  • Technician works independently within established policies, procedures, and production schedules.
  • Primary purpose is inspection and certification of power electronics to achieve reliability, availability, and quality while sustaining maintainability.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 7+ years OEM experience (Vertiv, SCI, Cyberex, Toshiba, Mitsubishi, Gutter, APC, MGE, Schneider Electric, Powerware/Eaton) with progressively difficult experience in power electronic system maintenance and repair.
  • Experience with various UPS systems, batteries, test equipment, and electrical apparatuses such as switchgears, panels, breakers, disconnects, ATSs, and generators.
  • AA/BS degree in Electrical and/or Electronics or equivalent training.
