Location: Richmond, VA;
Herndon, VA; or Havre de Grace, MD. Travel within the region is 30-50%.

What You’ll Do
  • Provide Electrical Engineering and Electrical Project Management for Vulcan Materials. Under the supervision of a Senior Engineer, handle electrical projects, repairs, and preventative maintenance with increasing responsibilities as experience grows.
  • Interface with vendors regarding equipment and facility designs and product applications.
  • Provide technical expertise to operations personnel as necessary. Ensure electrical installations, repairs, and maintenance are completed safely and correctly. Interface with major power providers on distribution and supply systems.
  • Project Management — Manage the electrical portion of projects through all phases (planning, design, construction, maintenance). Provide input for electrical portions of plant design, modifications, buildings, and related documentation (estimates, schedules, drawings, descriptions).
  • Planning and Design — Assist internal and external electrical engineers in planning and designing electrical and automation systems, establish equipment selection criteria, and advise on applying automation to improve productivity and reduce costs. Provide troubleshooting guidance for plant electrical issues.
  • Assess Needs and Internal Resources — Assess needs and coordinate use of outside contractors as necessary.
  • Mentor — Mentor/instruct regional electrical staff to ensure conformance to safe and best practices in design, construction, and testing.
Skills You’ll Need
  • Education — Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience — At least 5 to 10 years of electrical experience in mining, heavy industrial, utility, or related industry. Experience designing and managing construction of projects related to different types of power distribution (overhead and underground) preferred.
  • Technical Experience — Experience with PLCs, Soft Starters, and VFDs;
    Power System Analysis Software (PTW, ETAP); motor control systems; hiring and supervising electrical contractors; managing small, medium, and large-scale electrical projects; and supervising union/nonunion employees.
  • Other Skills — Advanced computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, AutoCAD).
  • Knowledge — Mine production techniques and equipment (preferred); strong knowledge of safety and environmental regulations (NEC, NESC, MSHA, OSHA); ability to communicate effectively and manage multiple priorities; strong relationship-building skills with all levels of staff, customers, vendors, and internal personnel.
