Purpose:
As part of the Gas Power Steam Power Services Inquiry to Remittance (ITR) engineering team for the Americas, you will play a key role in providing design engineering support to our region’s manufacturing and repairs external services partners. Our team is essential for maintaining high technical rigor to ensure quality of the product is maintained, while working with a sense of urgency to drive customer fulfillment.
This role also partners closely with global rotating equipment design teams to ensure product designs and repairs deliver safe, reliable, and high quality products.
You will work closely with manufacturing, repair, and quality teams to define and execute qualification processes that ensure steam turbine components are manufactured and repaired safely, with high quality, and delivered on time. Our goal is to deliver timely and optimal solutions for our customers through lean, cost-effective manufacturing qualification strategies, effective disposition of non-conforming hardware (NCNs and SDRs), and continuous improvement initiatives.
This hands‑on role requires close collaboration with engineering, suppliers, factories, materials, quality, and sourcing teams to ensure product quality, fulfillment, and the successful resolution of complex manufacturing and repair challenges.
Success Metrics:
Success will be measured by the satisfaction of internal and external customers, with emphasis on delivering engineering services that are safe, compliant, and high quality, and completed right the first time and on schedule.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Work as a member of the engineering team to ensure proper application of processes and QMS standards through the engineering definition and execution of robust repairs qualifications and execution.
- Act as the single point of contact and lead complex repair activities for steam turbine components, including rotors, diaphragms, casings, and valves.
- Design for producibility and lean flow to optimize manufacturing processes.
- Execute standard work for common issues encountered. Identify creative ways to create and/or improve our processes, design methods, and manufacturing methods.
- Develop inspection and test plans for repairs services and manufacturing process plans for supplier qualifications.
- Serve as the primary technical interface to external suppliers and GE for complex repair projects, coordinating with repairs sales, quality, materials engineers, customer service managers, project managers, sourcing, engineering, and quality teams.
- Lead and participate in first‑of‑a‑kind product qualification efforts for external suppliers, including design reviews and technical risk assessments with internal teams and customers.
- Evaluate and disposition product and process non‑conformances, supporting corrective and preventive actions through structured root cause analysis.
- Contribute to value‑stream transformation initiatives for outages and repairs, driving improvements in safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
- Foster and employ a safety first, zero‑defect mindset. Always STOP WORK when something is unsafe and don't start working again until it is safe.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or material science engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in steam turbine manufacturing and repairs.
- At least 3 years of workshop manufacturing methods and tooling design experience.
Desired Characteristics (Technical Skills/Competencies):
