About the RoleAs a Tax Manager, you will join a boutique tax team within our wealth management firm, working alongside and leading a small group of tax professionals. You will manage complex tax engagements for high-net-worth individuals, their families, and other clients with sophisticated needs, blending strong technical expertise with effective team leadership. You’ll stay closely involved with colleagues throughout every phase of the tax process, including hands‑on preparation and review of returns.
This is a full‑time hybrid position located in Richmond, VA and reports to the Tax Director.
- Manage federal and state income tax planning and consulting engagements for our high-net-worth individuals
- Prepare and review simple‑to‑complex individual, estate & trust, gift, and passthrough entity income tax returns
- Oversee the accurate and timely preparation of income tax returns including conducting primary and secondary reviews
- Gather, analyze, and input relevant client information into CRM systems and other platforms
- Communicate directly with clients to gather information, discuss results, and provide proactive tax planning insights
- Support business development and client retention initiatives by participating in client and prospect meetings, developing tax practice client base while building and maintaining strong relationships with clients
- Integrate tax insights and strategies with long‑term financial planning alongside our wealth advisory team
- Assist Director with communicating relevant tax developments to associates and clients
- Research and analyze complex or atypical tax issues and share insights with tax team and clients
- Correspond with IRS and other taxing authorities on behalf of clients and manage tax audits
- Monitor and interpret evolving tax law changes and implement improvements in our services
- Seasonal overtime at certain points in the year, particularly those months leading to and including major tax deadlines
- Perform other related duties and projects as assigned
- Supervise, mentor, and manage workload of tax associates on all tax‑related projects
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- At least 5+ years of experience in tax management in public accounting
- Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
Competitive base salary, plus annual discretionary bonus up to 20% based on individual and firm performance.
