Prospect Blue is seeking a hands-on Controller for a great client in the Richmond area.
The Controller will serve as a key member of the leadership team, responsible for managing the company’s accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance. This role will provide strategic insight into financial performance, lead process improvements, and ensure the integrity of financial data to support sound decision-making across the organization. The Controller will report directly to the VP and work closely with executive leadership, operations, and other departments.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee daily accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, payroll, and cash management.
- Lead the preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with federal, state, and industry regulations.
- Manage the budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes; provide financial insights to support operational decision-making.
- Oversee tax compliance and coordination with external auditors, tax advisors, and financial institutions.
- Implement process improvements, automation, and best practices to increase efficiency and accuracy within the accounting function.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and development to the accounting team.
- Partner with operations leadership to monitor key performance indicators, analyze costs, and support strategic initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA strongly preferred).
- 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience in transportation, logistics, or asset-intensive industries strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to lead teams, implement process improvements, and leverage technology/ERP systems.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
