Controller

Location: Richmond, VA

Salary: $100,000 – $150,000 (plus 17.5% Director Incentive Bonus)

Schedule: Full-Time | Days (Rotating Weekends)

Bonus: 17.5% Director Incentive Bonus

Position Summary

The Controller oversees all accounting activities, staff supervision, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance for the organization. This leader is responsible for ensuring accuracy, internal audit readiness, timely month‑end closes, and completion of all financial documentation in line with best practices and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and support Assistant Controller and accounting staff, ensuring departmental goals and productivity standards are met
  • Assign, monitor, and oversee completion of departmental tasks in line with organizational and policy requirements
  • Facilitate open communication and collaboration within the accounting team and with management
  • Manage and review budgets, cost reports, and ad hoc financial documentation as directed by senior finance leadership
  • Prepare for and participate in internal and external audits
  • Review and reconcile general ledger accounts, resolve discrepancies, and ensure monthly close processes are completed on time
  • Oversee completion of monthly balance sheet reviews and financial attestations
  • Select, train, and evaluate accounting personnel to ensure service quality and technical expertise
  • Maintain and document strong internal control practices, including Sarbanes‑Oxley compliance
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of the organization’s balance sheet and financial records
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of accounting experience required
  • Preferred: 5+ years of accounting experience, with 1–2 years in a supervisory role (healthcare setting a plus)
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
