Job Duties

The Virginia Management Fellows (VMF) Program is hiring a ninth cohort of emerging leaders with a commitment to public service and an interest in full‑time employment in state government. The VMF is hiring Fellows for the two‑year program beginning June 25, 2026, and ending June 25, 2028. The VMF program is seeking applicants who are diverse in their thoughts, educational backgrounds, experiences, places of residence, cultures, and ethnicities.

is the Virginia Management Fellows Program?

This fellowship is a program that provides individuals with training and mentorship to further their skills and knowledge in the Virginia state government. Some benefits from being involved with a fellowship in your early career include:

  • Training and Mentorship: The VMF provides formal training programs, workshops, seminars, or mentorship opportunities to help fellows develop their skills and knowledge in their areas of interest.
  • Rotation Assignments: Our Fellows are assigned to three 8‑month agency rotations where they work on specific projects, programs, and research studies, and they contribute their skills and expertise to advance the goals of the organization.
  • Networking Opportunities: Fellows have opportunities to connect with professionals in their fields and build their professional networks.
  • Professional Development: The VMF also includes opportunities for career development, leadership training, skill‑building, and guidance on achieving personal and professional goals.
  • Contribution to the Commonwealth: Our Fellows are expected to make meaningful contributions to the state during their fellowship period, through research, analysis, writing, program delivery, or other forms of work.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited institution. To be eligible for the VMF Program, applicants must have graduated on or after November 2024 with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or demonstrate proof of a May 2026 graduation date.
  • Relevant fields of study include Political Science, Public Administration, Public Planning, Finance and Economics, Business Administration, Program Management, Project Management, or closely related fields.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear, well‑organized reports and deliver effective presentations.
  • Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines.
  • Able to think proactively about tasks and take initiative.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other relevant software to develop reports, analyses, presentations, and communication materials.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, must be able to think critically and solve complex problems.
  • Demonstrated research skills, including the ability to gather, analyze, and synthesize quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to rotate across multiple agencies and functional areas, including assignments that may not directly align with academic major.
