Mission or Goal of Unit:
VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Department of Radiation Oncology is a highly integrated department, reflective of the discipline faculty are committed to providing exceptional, compassionate patient care, conducting leading-edge research, and educating emerging radiation oncologists, medical physicists, and dosimetrists to contribute to the ever-evolving field of radiation oncology.
The mission of the Medical Physics division is to provide exemplary radiation therapy to patients through high-quality clinical services and advanced technologies, investigation and implementation of improved treatment planning and delivery methods, research programs designed to improve the efficiency and efficacy of radiation therapy, and clinical trials to assess the clinical advantages of radiation therapy treatment modalities. Massey CCC both develops and participates in study protocols at the local, regional, and national levels.
Additionally, the division of Medical Physics is improving cancer care locally and nationally through comprehensive undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate educational programs. We offer a MS and PhD in Medical Physics and a postgraduate residency program in Radiation Oncology Physics (CAMPEP accredited).
Chief Purpose of this position:
The Department of Radiation Oncology at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System has an immediate opening for a therapeutic medical physicist (TMP). This is a clinical medical physicist position based primarily at the Adult Outpatient Pavilion (https://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).), which is the main facility of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center. The successful candidate will provide clinical radiation therapy services using state-of-the-art radiotherapy that includes: IMRT, VMAT, SBRT, SRS, IGRT, and LDR and HDR brachytherapy programs.
The individual hired into this position will serve as a principal clinical physicist within our team and will also have the opportunity to participate in our dynamic clinical research program.
Position Responsibilities:
Teaching - The staff physicist is expected to participate in teaching radiation oncology and physics residents rotating through the AOP/downtown facilities.
Research - The staff physicist is expected to participate in clinically-oriented research.
Service - As a faculty member, the staff physicists will serve on committees, including departmental, School of Medicine, and/or University committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field (i.e. reviewer, conference organizer, etc.).
Other/Administrative - A percentage of time and effort will be devoted to academic service-related activities fostering professional growth and other such assignments.
Required Qualifications :
M.S. or PhD in medical physics, physics, engineering, or a closely related physical science discipline
A Board certification eligibility in radiation oncology physics
Demonstrated experience in IMRT, IGRT, SBRT, SRS, and LDR and HDR brachytherapy
Personal skills such as initiative, problem-solving, and teamwork
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong technical skills
Experience in regulatory procedures
This appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor higher.
The salary and position rank are commensurate with the length, breadth, and depth of experience
Preferred Qualifications :
PhD degree in medical physics, physics, engineering, or a closely related physical science discipline
A board certification
At least three years of clinical experience
