The Physical Therapist Clinician II is primarily responsible for delivering physical therapy care to the patient population assigned to the clinician and for recording that care in the hospital medical record. The therapist acts as a consultant to various patient populations and provides instruction to OT/PT support staff, PT students, personnel of other disciplines within VCUHS, and patient and/or family members.
Therapists may rotate through our various clinical service areas.
- Must be licensed (or licensure eligible) by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Physical Therapist.
- Ongoing employment requires current Virginia license and current CPR certification if required by clinic or practice area.
- Minimum of 1 year of work experience as a Physical Therapist.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Physical Therapy.
- Preferred:
Master’s or Doctoral Degree from an accredited School of Physical Therapy.
- Patient evaluation and implementation of intervention programs.
- Discharge planning and ordering equipment.
- Represent department at rounds and discharge conferences.
- Schedule and charge patients.
- May supervise Physical Therapist Assistants, Patient Care Technicians, students, and volunteers.
- Senior member of a self‑directed team; applies knowledge and experience to daily clinic problem solving.
- Unresolved issues are brought to the departmental manager for assistance and guidance.
Physical Requirements
Employees share in weekend and holiday schedule expectations or have a variable daily work hour range from 8 AM to 7 PM based on patient population needs.
Age Groups Served: Pediatrics, Adolescence, Adult, Geriatric.
Physical Requirements: Lifting 50–100 lbs, frequent bending, walking, climbing stairs or ladders, reaching overhead, repetitive motion.
Mental/Sensory: Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, clear speaking, legible writing, reading, logical thinking.
Emotional: Fast‑pace and steady‑pace environment, ability to handle multiple priorities, frequent customer interactions, noisy environment, adaptability to frequent changes.
