Overview

The Part-Time Mentor, under the direction and guidance of the Director of Community Based Services and the Clinical Supervisor, delivers therapeutic services to program clients and their families within the policies and procedures of St. Joseph’s Villa. Responsible for the coordination of an overall written program of services; coordination of program staff in relationship to Service Plans for clients and providing direct professional services to clients and their families.

Position focuses upon development of and participation in a team approach with other program staff and community-based support to ensure quality services to clients and their families. Performs all work safely, in accordance with the highest professional ethical standards, and in alignment with Saint Joseph’s Villa mission, values, and guiding principles.

The successful incumbents will have the knowledge of life skills counseling techniques and appropriate intervention procedures with children with MR, autism, and cerebral palsy. Knowledge of behavioral management techniques. Knowledge of basic medications administration, vehicle transport, first aid and CPR. Knowledge of appropriate methods of physical restraint. Able to work effectively in stressful situations. Able to appropriately use proprietary software.

Work Schedule:

Part-Time - Monday - Friday after 3:00pm

Pay Rate: $18.00/hr

Responsibilities
  • Participates as an active member in a team approach to the delivery of services to clients.
  • Participates in staff meetings, community meetings, and other staff and program group activities that support the operation of an effective psycho educational program.
  • Coordinates all phases of the treatment program within the program(s) for those clients for whom he/she has primary responsibility.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of service plans, objectives and methods necessary for providing effective services to individual clients and families.
  • Work with youth to develop interpersonal, communication, social, and problem-solving skills, as well as age-appropriate behaviors and constructive use of leisure time.
  • Provides and supervises recreational and social activities based on the goals established collaboratively with the youth, parents, and placing agency.
  • Provides professional services to clients and their families in the family’s home or in appropriate community activities on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Develops of progress/evaluation reports on clients that meet both St. Joseph's Villa’s and placing agency requirements.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of youth, flexibility, a non-threatening manner, respect for youth’s autonomy, confidentiality, socio-cultural values, personal goals, lifestyle choices, and family interactions, and appropriate professional boundaries and ethics.
  • Promotes good community relations and utilizes needed community services.
  • Attends scheduled training programs for professional development that includes, at a minimum, trainings required by St. Joseph’s Villa and by regulatory and accrediting bodies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

HS Required, BS/BA degree in related field preferred. Experience with relevant population. Must be able to work effectively with client population and in a team-based environment.).At least 1 year clinical experience with relevant population. Must be able to work effectively with client population and in a team-based environment. Ability to work Independently and without direct supervision. Proficient with Windows, Outlook, and MS Word.

Experience with proprietary software preferred. Excellent documentation skills. Valid Virginia driver’s license with excellent driving record.
