The practice of computed tomography is performed by healthcare professionals responsible for the administration of ionizing radiation for diagnostic, therapeutic, or research purposes. A computed tomography technologist performs computed tomography procedures that create the images needed for interpretation and the performance of interventional and therapeutic procedures at the request of and for interpretation by a licensed practitioner.
OverviewRole involves performing CT procedures and supporting interventional and therapeutic imaging under the guidance of licensed practitioners, following imaging safety standards and department protocols.
Responsibilities- Perform all the duties of a CT Technologist I.
- Capable of safely administering contrast or other imaging agents including the identification of incompatibilities and/or interactions.
- Assess a patient’s risk for allergic reaction to contrast media and other related medications prior to administration and follow appropriate escalation protocols as needed.
- Evaluate lab values prior to administering contrast media or other related medications and before beginning the ordered examination.
- Provide accurate explanations and instructions to the patient and family using age-appropriate language and verify understanding and agreement to the completion of the ordered exam.
- Perform ordered exams or therapy in accordance with established imaging protocols while respecting patient comfort and ability.
- Adhere to policies and utilize protocols to determine that expected outcomes have been met.
- Document deviations from protocol and/or patient-specific issues that may impact image quality.
- Notify the appropriate health care provider when an immediate clinical response is necessary based on procedural findings, patient condition, or other relevant concerns that may impact patient safety or care.
- Timely completion of required post-processing, image display, and transfer for physician review.
- Timely order closure, charge entry, and PACS QA completion.
- Routinely cover open shifts as appropriate based on level of competency.

- Experienced and competent in routine and complex studies.
- Complete understanding of technical standards, scope of practice, department and health system policies, and safety and service standards.
- Complete understanding of imaging equipment, image processing software, instrumentation, and ancillary patient care equipment.
- The position requires Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB), ARRT-CT, BLS, and have successfully completed their 6-month orientation.
