Peer Recovery Specialist I (Richmond, Virginia)
Provide peer support services based on lived experience in recovery. Engage individuals in behavioral health or substance use recovery through mentorship, emotional support, and resource navigation. Operate under supervision and does not require certification.
North Campus is 24 hour facility, hiring for PRN staff to work day, evening, and/or overnight shifts.

Engage with individuals to offer emotional support and share lived experience in recovery
Facilitate peer-led groups and contribute to discussions that promote wellness and empowerment
Assist clients in identifying personal goals and navigating recovery resources
Provide appointment reminders and support with scheduling and transportation coordination
Document peer interactions and group sessions in electronic health records
Collaborate with certified peer recovery specialists and clinical teams
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to agency policies and ethical standards
Other duties as assigned
Position RequirementsMinimum Qualifications

Education and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
Lived experience in recovery from mental health or substance use challenges
1+ years of experience in peer support, behavioral health, or human services
Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and electronic documentation systems
OR?an equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities that demonstrates the capacity to perform the essential functions of the position, as permitted by applicable regulatory standards.
Possession of a valid Virginia driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record in accordance with agency policy.
Interest in pursuing certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS)
Experience facilitating peer support groups or recovery coaching
Familiarity with community resources and behavioral health systems
Knowledge of recovery principles and peer support practices
Skill in communicating effectively with individuals in recovery
Skill in facilitating group engagement and peer mentorship
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
Ability to learn and retain processes through instruction and apply them independently
Ability to identify potential problems or detect when something may be likely to go wrong
This position does not supervise or function in a lead worker capacity.
This role, generally performs work under the following conditions:
Light Work:
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects, including the human body. This role requires regular movement throughout the workday, including walking, stair climbing, and driving to community-based locations. Employees must be physically capable of navigating varied environments such as residential facilities, urban areas, and client homes.Close concentration, visual attention and need for manual dexterity required.
Normal working conditions. Work is typically performed in a standard behavioral health environment with minimal exposure to environmental hazards.
Conditions may fluctuate based on client acuity and behavioral presentations. Staff may be required to implement behavior management techniques and participate in crisis intervention procedures. Behavioral interventions are infrequent, typically occurring
