Virginia Family Services (VFS) is seeking an experienced, motivated, and dedicated Clinical Supervisor to provide clinical leadership and oversight within our Addiction Recovery Treatment Services department. The ideal candidate is a knowledgeable behavioral health professional who is passionate about supporting individuals experiencing substance-use and co-occurring mental health disorders, developing clinical staff, maintaining high standards of service delivery, and promoting positive treatment outcomes.

The Clinical Supervisor will oversee assigned clinical staff, provide supervision and professional development, ensure the quality and accuracy of clinical documentation, and collaborate with internal and external healthcare professionals to support effective treatment services.

Key Duties and Responsibilities Clinical Oversight & Service Delivery
  • Complete clinical assessments, addendums, and reassessments.
  • Complete Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale assessments.
  • Prepare initial service authorization requests, continued-stay documentation, and registrations.
  • Review and approve individualized service plans (ISPs), progress notes, daily logs, weekly summaries, and quarterly reports.
  • Conduct chart reviews and maintain accurate, complete clinical records.
  • Apply evidence-based counseling practices and treatment approaches appropriate for individuals receiving addiction recovery services.
  • Participate in treatment team, outcome, and service planning meetings.
Staff Supervision & Leadership
  • Provide individual and group supervision to assigned clinical staff.
  • Support new-hire onboarding and clinical training.
  • Monitor staff performance, documentation quality, and adherence to clinical expectations.
  • Conduct employee performance evaluations at designated intervals, including 90-day, and annual reviews.
  • Delegate responsibilities, establish clear expectations, and promote professional growth.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and supportive clinical team environment.
Quality Assurance & Program Operations
  • Monitor clinical documentation and service delivery for compliance with company policies and applicable requirements.
  • Conduct quarterly customer satisfaction and outcome surveys.
  • Generate and review electronic health record reports.
  • Collaborate with psychiatrists, primary care providers, care coordinators, social services, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Support departmental performance objectives, service quality, and census goals.
  • Participate in assigned meetings and organizational initiatives.
Education &

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a Human Services field required.
  • Must hold one of the following Virginia professional credentials:
  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Resident in Counseling registered with the Virginia Board of Counseling, Eligible Supervisee in Social Work
  • Must also hold one of the following substance-use credentials or statuses:
  • Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC), CSAC-Supervisee, Certified Substance Abuse Counseling Assistant (CSAC-A)
  • Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience working with adults diagnosed with mental health and substance-use disorders.
  • Valid Virginia driver's license, reliable transportation, and proof of automobile insurance.
  • Acceptable driving record and ability to meet required background screening standards.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
  • Training in American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) criteria.
  • Knowledge of addiction recovery treatment services and evidence-based clinical practices.
  • Strong clinical judgment, leadership, and staff-development skills.
  • Experience with clinical documentation, electronic health records, and quality assurance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Ability to motivate, mentor, and support a diverse clinical team.
