Overview

Senior Director, Software Engineering (Machine Learning) irm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without hidden fees or compounding interest. Affirm is seeking to hire a Senior Director to lead centralized Machine Learning capability.

• Set the vision for Machine Learning and AI e world-class Machine Learning modelers, platform and software engineers to execute that vision.
• Take ownership of our core model development lifecycle and business outcomes across underwriting, fraud, servicing, and personalization.
• Work closely with product and business leadership to champion AI adoption in existing and new products.
• Balance ML investments across traditional ML and transformer-based models.
• Evolve the ML platform to support increasing ML needs with emphasis on training, tuning, and serving AI models.
• Run a robust, yet shortened ML development lifecycle, establishing a culture of experimentation and fast learning from failures.
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners outside engineering, including product, risk, servicing, legal, and compliance.

• 15+ years of relevant experience in Machine Learning, AI, or related technical domains.
• Experience leading centralized ML teams comprising ML modelers and ML platform engineers.
• Successful track record in delivering key models that directly drive company success and PnL.
• Comfortable working in matrix organizations and influencing across a wide range of leaders.
• Experience hiring, growing, and retaining talent.
• Keeps up with the evolving ML landscape—understands when to buy vs build and what tools/techniques drive the most business value.

Base Pay Grade - V

Equity Grade - 21

Base pay is part of a total compensation package that may include equity rewards, stipends for health, wellness and tech spending, and benefits (including 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental and vision for you and your dependents). USA base pay ranges per year: CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT: $340,000 - $375,000; all other U.S. states: $305,000 - $340,000.

Affirm is a remote-first company. The majority of roles are remote, with some roles requiring presence in an Affirm office. A limited number of roles remain office-based due to job responsibilities.
