Distinguished Engineer – Infrastructure & Service Perimeter

As a Distinguished Engineer at Capital One, you will be part of a community of technical experts working to define the future of banking in the cloud. You will lead the way in creating next‑generation talent for Capital One Tech, mentoring internal talent and actively recruiting to keep building our community. Distinguished Engineers are expected to lead through technical contribution. You will operate as a trusted advisor for our key technologies, platforms and capability domains, creating clear and concise communications, code samples, blog posts and other material to share knowledge both inside and outside the organization.

You will specialize in a particular subject area, but your input and impact will be sought and expected throughout the organization. The Infrastructure & Service Perimeter team builds and runs sustainable platforms that ensure the safe and secure transfer of data throughout the Capital One ecosystem. Our customers include our engineering teams, application owners, cyber operations teams, associates, and Capital One customers.

• Articulate and evangelize a bold technical vision for your domain
• Decompose complex problems into practical and operational solutions

• Serve as an authoritative expert on non‑functional system characteristics, such as performance, scalability and operability

• Act as a role model and mentor within the tech community, helping to coach and strengthen the technical expertise and know‑how of our engineering and product community
• Own the multi‑year (3‑7) vision for Perimeter Defence, namely platforms used to defend against externally derived network‑centric attacks (L3‑L7). Develop and maintain the comprehensive, multi‑year (3‑7 year) strategic vision for Perimeter Defence. This includes oversight of platforms critical for defending against external, network‑centric attacks across layers L3 through L7.
• Tests and evaluates emerging technologies via proof‑of‑concept (POC) within Capital One, recommending adjustments and leading the scaling of successful POCs to production systems.
• Is the escalation point for low‑sev incidents. Leads on medium and high sev incidents and is responsible for RCA determination, action definition, and eventual closure. Acts as the primary escalation point for low‑severity incidents. Takes the lead on medium and high‑severity incidents, overseeing root cause analysis (RCA) determination, action definition, and final resolution.
• Works with partners (other DEs, Product, ISO…) to support the integration, application, and consumption of the platforms in their domain, providing expert consultancy and support as needed so that our customers get the best from our platforms. Provides expert consultancy and support to partners (including other Distinguished Engineers, Product teams, and Information Security Officers) to ensure the effective integration, application, and consumption of domain platforms, ultimately maximizing platform value for customers.

• Bachelor’s Degree
• At least 7 years of experience in Network Engineering and architecture.
• At least 7 years of experience in Security…
