In the Consumer Banking business, we combine a human‑centered approach with data‑driven decision making to design, build and test solutions that empower customers. Our retail bank line of business covers digital and online banking, branch and café experience, bank operations, contact center, enterprise payments, marketing and product strategy, and small‑business banking.

As a Principal Data Analyst at Capital One, you will use analytic and technical skills to innovate, build, and maintain data solutions and capabilities that address business challenges. Your work will fall into three main areas:
Innovation, Business Intelligence, and Data Management.

• Use open‑source and digital technologies to mine complex, voluminous, and diverse data sources.
• Build well‑managed data solutions, tools, and capabilities to enable self‑service frameworks for data consumers.
• Explore and quickly grasp new technologies to progress varied initiatives.

• Partner with business stakeholders to translate needs into tools, techniques, metrics, and dashboards for insights and visualization.
• Conduct analysis that provides meaningful insights on business strategies.

• Promote data quality management principles, including metadata, lineage, and business definitions.
• Collaborate with technology teams to manage security mechanisms and data access governance.
• Build and execute tools to monitor and report on data quality.

• Degree in a STEM discipline.
• Scripting experience in Python, R, Spark, and SQL.
• Experience with data warehouses, SQL, and unstructured data.
• Experience utilizing and developing within AWS services.

• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (or pursuit of degree) plus at least 5 years of data analytics experience, or Master’s degree plus at least 3 years of data analytics experience.
• At least 3 years of experience with a scripting language.
• At least 3 years of experience using a business intelligence visualization tool.
• At least 3 years of experience in querying, analyzing, and working with data languages and platforms.

• Master’s degree in a STEM discipline.
• At least 4 years of coding in Python, R, Spark, or SQL.
• At least 4 years of experience with process management and improvement methodologies (Agile, Lean, Six Sigma, etc.).
• At least 2 years of experience with AWS services.
• At least 2 years of experience delivering Data Governance and Data Quality Management concepts within financial services.

Salary ranges by location (full‑time, annual):
McLean, VA: $127,500 – $145,500
Richmond, VA: $115,900 – $132,200

This role is also eligible for performance‑based incentive compensation, including cash bonuses and/or long‑term incentives.
