Job Description

CVS Health Digital is looking for an outcome-driven Lead Architect to join our mission to create innovative digital solutions that make health care more accessible, more integrated, and more reliable for more people, both online and in our stores. As Lead Architect, you will work with design, research, product management, and engineering teams to translate business requirements into architecture runways for application development.

Leveraging your expertise in key technologies, you will help build products that bring about change in the healthcare industry and improve the lives of hundreds of millions of people.

This role requires collaborating with multiple stakeholders, including product management, UX design, and engineering teams, to create systems that are scalable, extensible, performant, and secure.

  • Lead technical architecture initiatives for multiple value streams (e.g. Agile Release Trains), helping ensure successful product deliveries.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage common solutions for cross‑cutting concerns.
  • Oversee build‑vs‑buy evaluations.
  • Partner with key stakeholders to establish and adopt architectural best practices, guidelines, and standards. Evangelize, mentor, and coach all on the same.
  • Understand the product requirement and product vision, evaluate high‑level technical feasibility, blockers or risks, lead solution discussions, and translate them into architecture solutions.
  • Communicate and present solutions to business partners, leadership, and engineering teams on solution technical blueprints, collaborating to make successful product deliveries.
  • Define non‑functional requirements (e.g. performance, availability, fail‑over, scalability, security, etc.). Ensure they are incorporated in the design and supported in the final product.
  • Guide engineering and other stakeholders on architectural best practices and standards. Evangelize, mentor, and coach all on the same.
  • Oversee the evolution of architectural roadmaps for your domain based on product requirements and long‑term vision. Balance feature development, technical debt reduction, and strategic architectural objectives.
  • Collaborate with multiple Agile value‑stream execution teams in guiding large solutions across multiple planning/execution cycles.
  • Evaluate new technologies and vendors. Guide POCs and discovery work as needed.
  • Provide guidance, direction, and mentorship to Architects/Sr. Architects and other collaborators.
Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of hands‑on consumer‑facing enterprise‑level application development experience.
  • 4 years of recent experience working with Cloud (AWS) and AI technology within Solution Architecture.
  • 6+ years in architecture, including leading technical architecture initiatives for multiple value streams such as Agile Release Train.
  • Expert understanding of architectural methodologies and best practices.
  • Experience and proficiency with modern languages, frameworks, and technologies.
  • Design of server applications, encompassing APIs and micro‑services, containers, databases, cloud infrastructures, and cloud services.
  • Design and development of complex systems/user interfaces.
  • Distributed computing architectures, including race conditions, parallelism, and concurrency control.
  • Modern API patterns, including RESTful APIs.
  • Recognized ability to explain highly complex technical architectures, designs, and issues clearly and understandably to all constituents.
  • Experience with Jenkins, CI/CD pipeline, GIT, and other Dev Ops principles.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, influencing, evangelization, negotiation, coaching, mentoring, and coalition‑building skills. Ability to work with persons in all job functions (e.g. Product, UX, Developers, QA, Dev Ops).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with SAFE practices or ability to work in SAFE practices and agile methodologies.
  • Good understanding of ADA and other regulatory compliances including PCI, PII, and PHI.
  • Experience related to security‑oriented projects.
