Overview

Technology Services has an exciting opportunity for a Windows Operating Systems Analyst to join our team! VCU Computer Center has an exciting opportunity for growth and results-oriented individual interested in supporting our Windows Server administration functions. We invite detail-oriented individuals with strong analytical and critical thinking skills, knowledge of a variety of Windows based servers in a Computer Center environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

Supports and utilizes the established VCU Computer Center processes and tools for project management, technology change management, and problem reporting and tracking. Supports the VCU Computer Center values. Plans for and installs new releases of the Microsoft server operating system and related program products. Includes verification, problem determination and resolution, customization and implementation. Ensures that all products are maintained at current levels by applying changes supplied by the vendors in a manner least disruptive to users.

Programs and engineers modifications and enhancements to products as needed to enhance functionality to the user. Develops new procedures and related documentation as needed. Adheres to a maintenance schedule for all Microsoft operating system products. Provides ongoing support to other members of the Technical Services staff and application developers. This includes modifications of system parameters and initialization options. Provides training to other staff members on Microsoft operating systems.

Maintains a current level of knowledge on topics within the computer industry. Includes attending class, seminars and vendor presentations, reading manuals and trade journals, use of the Internet and conversing with peers. Provides training and documentation to transfer this knowledge to other members of the staff. Supports various production systems including installation and maintenance of the operating systems, troubleshooting and support for applications developers.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Demonstrated skills in change management in a complex data center environment. Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft operating systems.
  • Working knowledge of common software languages, utilities and application programs for the Microsoft operating systems platforms.
  • Ability to install software packages on various operating system platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve problems related to operating system and related software.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues efficiently.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, or related field, with course work in data structures and operating systems desirable, equivalent experience may be substituted.
  • Some experience, to include computer operating systems fundamentals, software installation procedures.

Salary Range

$75,000 - $88,000
