This individual will analyze, investigate, and prosecute suspected violations of state and federal consumer lending statutes, including statutes that address payday/short‑term loans, motor vehicle title loans, consumer finance loans, mortgage loans, mortgage servicing, and foreclosure rescue services. In addition, the individual will have responsibility for analyzing, investigating, and prosecuting violations of other state and federal consumer protection laws, including the Virginia Consumer Protection Act.

The role requires excellent writing skills and preparation to appear in state or federal court in actions filed against alleged violators. Work will involve collaboration with representatives of the State Corporation Commission, Bureau of Financial Institutions, and federal consumer protection agencies on referred matters; periodic provision of legal advice to the Office of Charitable and Regulatory Programs; assistance in drafting official opinions;

review of proposed legislation; and coordination with counterparts in other states.

• Demonstrated ability to analyze and manage complex enforcement cases; well‑developed oral and written communication skills; and ability to interact effectively with state/federal government officials, a diverse workforce, and the general public.
• Ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 to 5 years of litigation experience in state and federal courts, concentrating on consumer credit or consumer protection matters.
• Must be admitted to the Virginia State Bar.
