The Clinical Nurse I job integrates technical skills and theoretical knowledge to meet patient and family needs. Responsibilities include assisting the healthcare team in illness prevention, wellness maintenance, and comfort provision. This role provides direction, education, and begins developing leadership skills at the unit level. It involves delivering and documenting age-specific care based on medical orders and multidisciplinary plans, as well as safely administering medications and identifying interactions.
The Clinical Nurse II role demonstrates mastery of clinical skills and applies this knowledge to a specific patient population. It involves recognizing patient situation changes, intervening appropriately, mobilizing resources, and providing leadership and education at the unit level. Responsibilities include delivering and documenting age-specific care and safely administering medications.
The Clinical Nurse III role requires demonstrated clinical knowledge at the unit level, applying it to specific patient populations. It involves anticipating patient changes, intervening, serving as a role model, and providing leadership and education. Responsibilities include delivering and documenting patient care and administering medications safely.
Licensure and Certification Requirements- Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible/compact state for all roles.
- For continued employment:
Current RN licensure in Virginia and AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent.
- Clin I: N/A
- Clin II: 12 to 24 months RN experience
- Clin III: 3 years clinical experience
- Clin I:
Experience as LPN, nursing assistant, or care partner in an acute care setting or relevant practice area. - Clin II & III:
Healthcare experience with similar patient populations in acute care or relevant practice area.
- All roles:
Diploma or Associate's Degree from an approved nursing program. All RNs without a Bachelor's degree must enroll in an RN to BSN program within two years and complete it within five years unless grandfathered. - Preferred:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or higher;
Clin III:
Specialty certification.
- Follows physician/provider orders and practices within Virginia nursing regulations, ANA Code of Ethics, and established policies.
- Supervisory responsibilities include organizing work and delegating tasks to team members.
- Physical requirements include lifting 20-50 lbs., exposure to hazardous substances, and activities like standing, walking, bending, reaching, and climbing.
- Mental and sensory skills include recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking, reading, and logical thinking.
- Work environment involves a fast-paced, noisy setting with multiple priorities and customer interactions.
