Nurse Practitioner - Outpatient Hepatology

Bon Secours Liver Institute of Richmond is seeking a full-time, outpatient Nurse Practitioner to join our high-performing hepatology team on the campus of St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond, VA. This is a unique opportunity to step into a specialized, team-oriented practice that blends advanced care with access to treatments not available in standard settings.

Position Highlights:

• 100% outpatient | Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:30 PM | No call
• Adults 18+ | Average 13 patients per day
• Immediate need:
  Take over an existing patient panel with over 300 visits already scheduled in 2025
• Mentorship available
• Virtual visits available and used regularly (MyChart platform)

What Makes This Role Unique:

• Direct involvement in clinical trials offering patients access to experimental treatments that are not yet available in routine practice - all trial-related care is covered by the study sponsor
• Specialty Pharmacy support handles most prior authorizations and payer communications, including peer-to-peer support
• Opportunity to work directly with transplant centers for our liver transplant patients, allowing our patients to do most of their visits and procedures closer to home
• Oncology refers newly diagnosed liver cancer patients directly to our practice, giving APCs the opportunity to participate in complex care
• Long-tenured, cohesive team with flexible, creative scheduling to maximize clinical space - typically two rooms per provider
• Opportunity to learn and grow in a highly specialized environment; optional training available to support inpatient consults and call coverage if desired

Clinical Focus:

• Hepatology outpatient care
• Clinical trial patient visits and fibroscan procedures
• Serve as sub-investigator on active research studies

Qualifications:

• Active Virginia Nurse Practitioner license
• AGACNP certification required
• Hepatology or liver disease experience strongly preferred

Practice Stats (2024):

• Patient panel: ~1,186
• Annual encounters: ~2,100 (250 new, 1,290 follow-up, 560 fibroscans)
• Appointments scheduled for 2025: 335 (and growing)
