Position: Registered Nurse RN Pediatric Psychiatry VTCC Weekend Incentive Program Days

Virginia Treatment Center for Children (VTCC) is the inpatient child and adolescent psychiatric unit. At VTCC, nurses within an interdisciplinary team, provide 24 hour care for children and adolescents ages 3‑17 with mental health needs. Children that are admitted are in acute crisis. Nursing is committed to improving the experiences of children and families. VTCC has a non‑coercive, healing model of conceptualization and care and a flexible approach to unmet expectations.

Nurses at VTCC influence and impact care at the bedside through their involvement through Shared Governance.

Clinical Nurse I
  • Job integrates technical skills and theoretical knowledge to meet the needs of the patient and family.
  • Assists the health care team with the prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort.
  • Provides direction, education, and begins to acquire leadership skills at the unit level.
  • Delivers and accurately documents direct, age‑specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and an integrated, multidisciplinary plan of care.
  • Safely administers prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and/or interactions.
Clinical Nurse II
  • Demonstrates mastery of clinical skills and begins to apply this knowledge to a specific patient population.
  • Assists the health care team with the prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort.
  • Recognizes changes in patient situations and intervenes appropriately.
  • Mobilizes resources to meet the individualized needs of patient/families.
  • Provides direction, education, and assumes leadership responsibilities at the unit level.
  • Delivers and accurately documents direct, age‑specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and an integrated, multidisciplinary plan of care.
  • Safely administers prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and/or interactions.
Clinical Nurse III
  • Demonstrates clinical knowledge at the unit level and begins to apply this knowledge to a specific patient population.
  • Assists the health care team with the prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort.
  • Anticipates changes in patient situations and intervenes appropriately.
  • Provides direction, education, and serves as a role model in a clinical setting.
  • Delivers and accurately documents direct, age‑specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and an integrated, multidisciplinary plan of care.
  • Safely administers prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and/or interactions.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire
  • Clinical I, II, III:
    Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible or compact state licensure.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Continued Employment
  • Clinical I, II, III:
    Current RN licensure in Virginia, AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent.
Experience
  • REQUIRED:
    • Clinical I: N/A
    • Clinical II: 12 to 24 months RN experience
    • Clinical III: 3 years of clinical experience
  • PREFERRED:
    • Clinical I:
      Experience as an LPN, nursing assistant or care partner either in acute care or applicable area.
    • Clinical II, III:
      Academic Health Care Experience; experience with similar patient population in either an acute care setting or applicable area.
  • Education / Training
  • REQUIRED:
    • Clinical I, II, III:
      Diploma or Associate’s Degree from a professional nursing program recognized and/or approved by the corresponding state’s Board of Nursing.
    • All registered nurses without a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an approved RN to BSN program within two years of start date and complete the program within five years unless grandfathered under previous requirements.
  • PREFERRED:
    • Clinical I, II, III:
      Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher) from an accredited program.
    • Clinical III:
      Certification in specialty area.
