Charge Nurse (RN) – Discharge Resource Center – Day Shift

Location: Mechanicsville, VA |
Pay: $35.00 per hour (approx.)
Sign‑On Bonus: $20,000 for offers accepted by February 28, 2026. Terms and conditions apply.
The Discharge Resource Unit (DRU) operates Monday–Friday and supports safe, timely patient discharges to skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) or home. By coordinating transport and transitions of care, the DRU helps improve hospital throughput and alleviate inpatient capacity.
Responsibilities- Coordinate transport and transitions of care to SNFs or home.
- Improve hospital throughput and alleviate inpatient capacity.
- Provide technical and theoretical patient care, prevention, wellness, and comfort.
- Deliver direct, age‑specific care based on medical orders.
- Safely administer prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and interactions.
- Provide education, direction, and leadership at the unit level.
- Integrate multidisciplinary plan of care.
- Organize work, delegate, and supervise RN’s, LPN’s, Care Partners, Unit Secretaries, etc.
- Work all three shifts, weekends and holidays with shift rotation established with the Nurse Manager/Practice Manager.
- Licensure: Current RN licensure in Virginia (eligible or compact state) for Clin I, II, III; AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent for continued employment.
- Experience: Clin I: N/A. Clin II: 12–24 months RN experience. Clin III: 3 years clinical experience.
Preferred experience:
LPN, nursing assistant, academic health‑care experience, or similar patient population experience. - Education: Diploma or Associate’s Degree from an accredited professional nursing program. Non‑BSN RN required to enroll in an RN‑to‑BSN program within 2 years and complete within 5 years unless grandfathered.
- Preferred Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher). Clin III:
Certification in specialty area. - Independent Action: Follow documented physician/licensed independent provider orders, practice within Virginia nursing regulations, guided by the ANA Code of Ethics for Nursing and VCUHS policies.
- Supervisory Responsibilities: Organize work, delegate, and supervise RN’s, LPN’s, Care Partners, Unit Secretaries.
- Additional: Work all shifts, weekends, and holidays; shift rotations and hours may be adjusted as needed.
- Lift 20–50 lbs.
- Exposure to potentially hazardous and infectious substances.
- Prolonged standing, sitting, bending, walking, climbing, reaching.
- Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, reading, logical thinking.
- Handle multiple priorities, fast‑paced environment, frequent and intense customer interactions, noisy environment.
