Job SummaryThe Operating Room Supervisor oversees staff and day‑to‑day operations of the unit in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and the organization’s policies, procedures, and guidelines. The Supervisor provides optimal services for patients and physicians in conjunction with Charge Nurses and Specialty Coordinators, and serves as a liaison for the perioperative leadership team.
Responsibilities- Plan staffing and daily assignments jointly with anesthesia, surgeons, clinical team, perioperative leadership, and specialty coordinators; assign staff, modify assignments, and manage daily procedure schedule.
- Develop staff schedules and serve as the department timekeeper.
- Collaborate with Materials Management, SPD, Engineering, Biomed, and Environmental Services to coordinate supplies, instruments, equipment and resolve environmental issues.
- Act as liaison for the medical staff; listen and respond constructively to concerns; refer key issues to senior leadership.
- Implement cost containment principles through judicious use of human resources and supplies.
- Interview, select, hire, orient, train, schedule, coach, counsel, and discipline staff; perform performance appraisals and provide coaching feedback.
- Identify and implement quality and process improvement initiatives; develop measurable processes; lead clinical initiatives, collect and audit data, maintain accurate records; participate in unit councils and committees.
- Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing school (required); BSN preferred.
- Licensing &
Certifications:
BLS (required); RN license in State of Practice (required); ACLS, PALS, CNOR, SGNA preferred. - Experience: 2 years perioperative nursing (required); 1 year in charge nurse, specialty coordinator or leadership role (required; preferred).
- Skills: Patient monitoring and communication, basic sciences, sterile techniques, Microsoft Office, scheduling, AORN and SGNA standards, sterile field knowledge.
- Interpersonal: Attention to detail, acceptance of authority, critical thinking, communication, teamwork, conflict resolution, active listening, relationship building, leadership, mentoring, problem solving, professionalism, etc.
- Training: None required.
