About the NICUAt VCU Health, our mission is simple yet profound: to preserve and restore health for the most vulnerable among us. Nowhere is that mission more deeply felt than in our Newborn Intensive Care Unit, where every heartbeat, every breath, and every milestone represents hope for a family and a future for a child.
As our NICU prepares for an expansion in early 2026, we invite compassionate, dedicated nurses to join a team whose work transforms lives from the very first moments. This growth allows us to expand access to advanced neonatal care, strengthen family-centered support, and continue setting the standard for excellence across the Commonwealth.
Our Level IV, 40-bed NICU is the region's largest single-family room unit, providing specialized care to premature and critically ill newborns requiring complex medical and surgical intervention. We care for more than 500 infants annually, including those transported through our Ground and Flight NICU Transport Program. Proudly recognized as the First Beacon Unit in the state of Virginia achieving GOLD distinction, our NICU reflects an unwavering commitment to clinical excellence, collaboration, and professional growth.
At VCU Health, you don't just fill a role - you become part of a purpose. Our nurses walk alongside families during some of their most fragile and transformative moments, offering not only expert clinical care but comfort, reassurance, and strength when it matters most. You will work within a nationally recognized academic medical center where innovation, evidence-based practice, and compassionate care intersect.
Whether you're launching your nursing career or bringing years of experience, our NICU offers a supportive environment where your voice matters and your impact is felt every single day.
Every shift in our NICU represents the chance to protect a fragile life, empower a family, and build a future filled with possibility. As we expand, we are not just growing in size - we are growing in purpose, reach, and impact.
