Veterinary Extern - General Practice

We are a small practice with a close-knit team. Externs would get a lot of one-on-one time with our Medical Director Dr. Dyer in wellness and sick exams, surgery, and dentistry. Externs may shadow any department of the hospital, including management. This externship has the potential to be very hands-on, especially for 4th year.

• Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations.
• Create treatment plans and participate in diagnostics and dentistry services.
• Observe, assist with, or perform surgical procedures and medical management of patients.
• Develop communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
• Shadow any department of the hospital, including management.

• Most externship experiences at Countryside Veterinary Clinic range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules.
• All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
• Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.

Eligible students typically are in the clinical portion of their education and seeking hands-on experience in multiple departments. Travel/living expense stipends are available for eligible veterinary students.
