Welcome to the Department of Cellular, Molecular and Genetic Medicine (CMGM). The laboratory of Swati Deb is seeking a research assistant interested in working and gaining experience in the area of Molecular Biology of Cancer. We are proud to provide a research and learning environment that is moderate in size, not too big and not too small, with an atmosphere that is conducive to one‑on‑one interactions among all members of the laboratory and Massey Cancer Center including basic and clinical scientists.
With state‑of‑the‑art facilities and instrumentation, our faculty, students and trainees are equipped to perform world‑class research and robust, comprehensive educational opportunities.
- Perform assigned research work as well as routine tasks in a research environment.
- Assist in performing assigned laboratory tasks without constant supervision.
- Assist staff in laboratory work.
- Clean and stock supplies to laboratories, clean glassware, maintain inventory, perform assays, set up and conduct experiments.
- Organize work, collect and analyze data, make calculations, prepare reports, keep records, and make independent decisions.
- Complete assigned special projects with minimal supervision.
- Higher education degree in one of the relevant scientific fields such as Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biology, Genetics, Immunology, Microbiology, etc. Relevant coursework as well as knowledge of lab equipment and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
This is a restricted position with no set end date; continued employment is dependent upon project need, availability of funding, and performance.
