Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine is searching for a PT Lab/Research Assistant to support research in the Department of Pathology.

Department Summary: The Department of Pathology at VCU School of Medicine is passionately committed to advancing the frontiers of medicine through excellence in education, innovative research, and exceptional clinical care. Our department plays a vital role in understanding and diagnosing disease through cutting‑edge technologies and interdisciplinary expertise. We aim to uncover the mechanisms of disease, contribute to groundbreaking discoveries, and translate scientific insights into tangible clinical applications.
Our collaborations with the Massey Cancer Center, VCU Health System, and other research and clinical institutes position us uniquely to bridge the gap between scientific discovery and real‑world impact.
Labs and Research Technicians perform a variety of routine, technical, and administrative responsibilities in support of research. Duties include collecting specimens, preparing materials, operating and maintaining equipment, ordering lab supplies, maintaining inventory, assisting with data analysis, and report writing. Technicians may work independently or as part of a team and generally work under general supervision, resolving most standard issues independently and referring complex issues to an upper-level manager.

Senior Lab and Research Technicians possess greater knowledge of proper lab and research techniques and protocols. They differentiate themselves by their ability to identify options, develop solutions for unique situations, exert greater decision‑making authority, and provide mentorship, coaching, and training to colleagues.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
- Knowledge in relevant scientific field, research techniques and methods
- Knowledge of regulatory policies and procedures
- Analytical skills and problem‑solving skills
- Attention to detail
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred. At least 2 years of lab experience (including student experience) is desirable. A Bachelor’s degree in a related science may be considered in lieu of experience.
Salary Range: Commensurate with experience
