PT General Facilities Workers

Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in technical, industrial, and medical fields. The College is seeking a General Facilities Worker (Trades Technician) to perform general maintenance duties on campus.

• Painting, drywall repairs, masonry, and plumbing repairs.
• Assist Full‑time Trades Technician and Maintenance Supervisor with various duties.
• Perform general maintenance duties as assigned by Maintenance or Housekeeping supervisors, Director of Operations, or VP of Finance and Administration.
• Assist with set‑up for events including athletics.
• Assist faculty, staff, and public as needed.
• Assist with snow removal as assigned.
• Complete job assignments without close supervision.
• Work on limited holidays, nights, and weekends as assigned.
• Complete OSHA 10‑hour class and Bloodborne Pathogen Training.
• Wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Provide excellent customer service to all stakeholders.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisors or VP of Finance and Administration.
• Participate in special assignments, including assistance during emergency declarations by the Governor.

• Knowledge of general maintenance and trades, commercial grounds keeping, and commercial cleaning.
• Experience in various skilled trades, commercial grounds keeping, and commercial cleaning.
• Ability to operate a wide variety of power equipment, grounds equipment, and custodial equipment.
• Ability to lift and move furniture, supplies, and equipment (≥50 lbs).
• Ability to climb extension ladder for maintenance and trades.
• Ability to operate snow removal equipment as assigned.
• Ability to work without close supervision.
• Ability to follow safety and security procedures.
• Ability to complete assigned duties in a timely manner.
• High school graduate or GED preferred.

Some travel may be required. Operation of a state vehicle is required.
