Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in technical, industrial, and medical fields. The College is seeking a General Facilities Worker (Trades Technician) to perform general maintenance duties on campus.
Responsibilities- Painting, drywall repairs, masonry, and plumbing repairs.
- Assist Full‑time Trades Technician and Maintenance Supervisor with various duties.
- Perform general maintenance duties as assigned by Maintenance or Housekeeping supervisors, Director of Operations, or VP of Finance and Administration.
- Assist with set‑up for events including athletics.
- Assist faculty, staff, and public as needed.
- Assist with snow removal as assigned.
- Complete job assignments without close supervision.
- Work on limited holidays, nights, and weekends as assigned.
- Complete OSHA 10‑hour class and Bloodborne Pathogen Training.
- Wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Provide excellent customer service to all stakeholders.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisors or VP of Finance and Administration.
- Participate in special assignments, including assistance during emergency declarations by the Governor.
- Knowledge of general maintenance and trades, commercial grounds keeping, and commercial cleaning.
- Experience in various skilled trades, commercial grounds keeping, and commercial cleaning.
- Ability to operate a wide variety of power equipment, grounds equipment, and custodial equipment.
- Ability to lift and move furniture, supplies, and equipment (≥50 lbs).
- Ability to climb extension ladder for maintenance and trades.
- Ability to operate snow removal equipment as assigned.
- Ability to work without close supervision.
- Ability to follow safety and security procedures.
- Ability to complete assigned duties in a timely manner.
- High school graduate or GED preferred.
Some travel may be required. Operation of a state vehicle is required.
