Water Meter Installer | Richmond, VA

Join Bermex as a Water Meter Installer. At Bermex, we provide expert meter reading services across the United States. You will work independently and outdoors, performing meter inspections, maintenance, and reading.

About

The Role

The Water Meter Installer reports to the Smart Meter Deployment Operations Manager. This position plays a key role in water meter maintenance and measurement. You must be able to walk long distances in outdoor conditions, manage time effectively, and adapt flexibly to daily schedules.

Compensation

Earn $23.00 per hour plus potential bonuses through the Bermex Productivity Incentive Plan (BPIP). Additional pay is available for production over set goals.

What You’ll Do
  • Water Meter Maintenance
    • Perform visual inspections for leaks.
    • Identify hazards and report them.
    • Change water meters and tabletops for AMI/AMR upgrade.
  • Water Meter Reading
    • Read meters.
    • Enter data into a handheld computer.
    • Assist with additional projects as needed.
  • Customer Communication
    • Refer consumer complaints to appropriate authorities.
    • Provide general information about meter services.
    • Communicate via telephone, tablet, or computer.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Must Haves
    • 18 years of age or older
    • No education required
    • Valid driver’s license
  • Nice to Have
    • High School Diploma or GED
    • 1+ years of experience in water meter exchange and register upgrades
    • Continuous work with the same employer for 1 year, or 6+ months of continuous employment
Skills
  • Ability to multi‑task and work independently or as a team
  • Exceptional flexibility in daily routes and schedules
  • Strong time‑management skills to finish daily reads efficiently
  • Excellent communication skills with management and customers
  • Professional handling of unhappy or negative customers
  • Attention to detail for problem‑solving and locating issues
  • Ability to walk long distances and endure weather conditions
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office)
  • High value on safety, quality, and operational procedures
  • Basic GIS knowledge required
Drug/Alcohol Testing
  • Required for all employees
  • Required by non‑regulatory requirements for employees working with water, electric, and meters
  • Required by federal DOT regulations for employees working with gas meters
