In this role, you’ll collaborate directly with clinicians, operational SMEs, clinical researchers and IT peers to design and deploy machine learning solutions that improve operational efficiencies in healthcare administrative areas and advance clinical care, helping shape the future of patient care. You’ll work on production‑grade ML systems, explore emerging technologies like agentic AI and AR/VR, and build clinical decision support tools that can have a real impact on patient outcomes. - Develop predictive models and machine learning algorithms that clinicians and staff will use to improve patient care, healthcare operations, and financial performance.
- Develop and deploy LLM‑based Agentic AI and automation solutions using RAG or fine‑tuning foundation models.
- Design, develop, and maintain robust and scalable machine learning pipelines, encompassing data ingestion, feature engineering, model training, deployment, and monitoring.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in AI and Machine Learning technologies to ensure VCU Health is at the forefront of AI innovation.
- Conduct rigorous model evaluation, including performance testing and bias assessment, to ensure the ethical and reliable deployment of AI systems.
- Mentor and guide junior members of the team, sharing expertise in AI/ML techniques, model development, and deployment best practices.
- Design and implement RESTful APIs to integrate ML models or GenAI solutions with other applications and systems within the organization.
- Work with a multidisciplinary team of Data Engineers, Data Architects, BI Developers, and operational SMEs across VCU Health to solve complex business problems and provide actionable insights to improve clinical and financial outcomes.
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, IT, Mathematics, Data Analytics, Engineering, or related discipline. Preferred:
Master’s degree in a related discipline. - Experience:
8+ years in Machine Learning / Artificial Intelligence tools and technologies. 5+ years of Python or R experience; 2+ years as a Full Stack Machine Learning Engineer or similar role. 2+ years of experience in a healthcare environment (preferred). - Skills:
Experience with unstructured data, NLP technologies, and big data. Proficient with at least one open-source ML library/framework (PyTorch, Tensor Flow, Keras, Numpy). Familiarity with foundation models, prompt engineering, fine‑tuning, or Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG). Knowledge of Data Management, Data Warehousing, Data Engineering and Data Governance concepts. Experience with Cloud technologies such as AWS, Azure, or GCP. - Other:
