Department Summary: Rec Well provides a broad range of programs and services that support the well-being of our VCU community, including group exercise, outdoor adventure, intramural sports, personal training, aquatics, employment opportunities, and much more. Rec Well educates and provides outreach on health topics that impact student well-being, including publication of the popular Stall Seat Journal.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe Group Exercise Coordinator is responsible for the administration and management of the group exercise program and related special events. Duties encompass a wide variety of personnel management, budget development and monitoring, facility operations, risk management, policy and procedures development, program administration, and program assessment and evaluation. This position directly supervises and provides leadership to the group exercise staff. This position reports to the Assistant Director for Fitness & Wellness.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree; prefer degree in exercise science, kinesiology, recreation, physical education or related field, or relevant professional experience.
- Two (2) years of experience in a position requiring similar responsibilities. Time spent working as a graduate assistant or paraprofessional may be counted toward this requirement.
- Knowledge of current practices and standards in group exercise programming.
- National Group Exercise/Fitness certification from ACE, ACSM, AFAA, or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience in all aspects of personnel management and staff development; ability to motivate and supervise staff.
- Demonstrated administrative skills in: budget development and fiscal/statistical management; planning, implementing and evaluating programs; risk management.
- Ability to take initiative, problem solve and meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
- Serve as part of the onsite/on call team, providing regular evening and weekend supervisory support.
- The position is located in a non-smoking work area.
- Master’s degree; prefer degree in exercise science, kinesiology, recreation, physical education or related field.
- Experience working in a campus recreation setting.
- CPR/AED/First Aid Certified.
- Ability to function independently and as a member of a team in a constantly changing environment.
- CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor Certified.
- Training or certification in Barre, Pilates, Yoga, Cycling, Les Mills™ formats, ZumbaⓇ, etc.
$48,000-$52,000
