About the Photography Department:

Rickmansworth School is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Photography Technician to join our creative and supportive department. This is an excellent opportunity to make a real impact on students’ artistic development and inspire their passion for photography.

As a Photography Technician, you will play a key role in supporting practical lessons, maintaining equipment and resources, and ensuring that students have the tools they need to succeed in both the classroom and specialist darkrooms. You will be at the heart of our Photography Department, providing essential support across Key Stages 3-5. In addition, you will manage the straightforward administration of departmental materials, including issuing invoices to parents for student use of resources and ensuring that payments are collected and accurately recorded.

School leaders recognise the unique opportunities that our Photography Department provides for our students and are fully committed to supporting the team. Following the success of the department over several decades, the department has expanded and, this summer, we have invested over £300,000 to move the department’s location to a bespoke new floor of the Art & Photography block. The brand new facilities include a teaching classroom, an extensive library, a black & white darkroom and a colour darkroom.

If you have a passion for photography and are keen to contribute to an engaging and inspiring learning environment, we would love to hear from you. Join us in fostering creativity, technical skill, and a love of the visual arts in our students.

In return, we will offer you:
  • Outstanding CPD opportunities to support your professional growth
  • A school with exemplary student behaviour, where learning is valued
  • A collaborative working environment where teamwork is at the heart of everything we do
  • Highly skilled and supportive staff, working together to make a difference
  • A comprehensive wellbeing programme to ensure you feel valued and supported

Rickmansworth School is an outstanding, heavily over-subscribed 11-18 co-educational academy, consistently achieving excellent academic results. We provide a nurturing and dynamic environment for our 1575 ambitious young people. Our strong academic track record at both GCSE and A-Level ensures that the vast majority of our students go on to their first-choice universities.

Selection Process

We are required for only shortlisted candidates to conduct online searches about an applicant as part of our shortlisting process in accordance with Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance 2026 in order to identify any incidents or concerns which are publicly available online. On signing the declaration on application you will be agreeing to the acknowledgement that such searches will be conducted as part of the shortlisting process.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to the school where there will be a number of related tasks, details of which will be discussed on the day. Interviews will be held with the Headteacher and possibly another member of SLT. There will also be a tour of the school estate and this may be conducted by other members of the school community.
