As MWH Treatment’s service to its client, Thames Water, continues to flourish into AMP8, we are looking to strengthen our Engineering team with a Principal Mechanical Engineer. Based in the Thames Water region (Maple Lodge office), you will report directly to the Regional Discipline Lead (Mechanical).

Our challenging programme of work, across a variety of water and wastewater schemes, is expected to be in the region of £400M.

Key responsibilities will include:

Reporting to Design Managers, Technical Discipline Lead, Regional Discipline Lead, and Engineering Manager.

Producing complex design layouts that are cost-effective, meet specifications, and are feasible for construction and commissioning.

Producing and checking all design deliverables, including specifications, schedules, drawings, and calculations.

Collaborating with other disciplines for developing site/plant 3D models.

Ensuring standard designs and practices are utilized where possible.

Delivering design outputs within agreed timescales and budgets.

Coordinating design outputs across all technical disciplines.

Maintaining competitiveness.

Providing estimates and feedback for proposals.

Establishing relationships with construction staff and supply chain representatives to promote buildability and efficiency.

Following procedures and processes for departmental development.

Assisting in developing and reviewing procedures and processes.

Writing, updating, and monitoring procedures to ensure departmental efficiency.

Coordinating designs with all internal and external disciplines to benefit the overall contract.

Maintaining files and records during contracts.

Ensuring customer satisfaction.

Chairing operability and maintenance workshops with clients to review solutions for operability and maintainability.

Fostering a customer-focused culture.

Maintaining personal development plans.

Supervising and developing staff.

Ensuring a safe working environment.

Minimizing waste in departmental activities.

Considering environmental issues in designs.

Adhering to CDM 2015 Regulations and health and safety standards.

Essential experience and knowledge include:

Strong understanding of engineering principles: structures, materials, hydraulics, environmental engineering.
Knowledge of water and sewage treatment principles.
Experience managing staff in designing water and sewage treatment plant aspects.
Membership of a professional institution / chartered status.
Relevant engineering degree.
Ability to produce rationalized, economical plant layouts.
Broad knowledge of water treatment aspects: mechanical, process, electrical engineering, and project management.
Knowledge of roles under CDM 2015 Regulations.
Familiarity with industry standards (BS, WIMES, BSRIA, etc.) and HSE regulations (PUWER, LOLER, PSSR 2000, DSEAR, etc.).
Understanding of relevant water regulations (Water Quality, DWI).
Flexible mindset with the ability to process large amounts of data.
Effective presentation skills for technical proposals.
Computer literacy.
Driving license.
