Our Tier 1 water civils contractor client is seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to support the successful delivery of Affinity Water projects based out of Rickmansworth
.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled civil engineering professional to take ownership of site engineering activities, support project delivery teams, mentor junior engineers, and help deliver complex water infrastructure schemes safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

The Role

As a Senior Engineer
, you'll provide engineering leadership across multiple projects, ensuring that all survey control, setting out, quality assurance, safety, and technical requirements are effectively managed.

You'll work closely with Project Managers, Site Agents and Sub Agents while supporting the development of Site Engineers and Junior Engineers across the region.

Key Responsibilities

Establish and manage survey control and site setting out for projects.

Ensure Site Engineers have the information and support needed to carry out daily setting out activities confidently.

Be present during critical setting out and surveying operations.

Maintain accurate engineering and H&S records in line with company and legislative requirements.

Deliver projects safely, sustainably and defect-free.

Support Site Agents and Sub Agents in developing efficient construction methodologies.

Act as deputy to the Site Agent/Sub Agent when required.

Undertake material take-offs and support procurement planning.

Carry out and record survey and instrumentation checks.

Complete quality inspections, audits and handover documentation.

Provide technical feedback and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

Develop and manage Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and Quality Management Plans.

Resolve engineering and resource-related issues proactively.

Organise and deliver toolbox talks and site briefings.

Prepare and issue safe systems of work and method statements.

Attend design meetings and collaborate with clients, designers and contractors.

Line manage and mentor Engineers, supporting their development and progression.

Support recruitment activities and onboarding of new engineering staff.

Drive engineering involvement from tender handover through to project completion.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

We're looking for someone who combines strong technical expertise with excellent leadership and mentoring skills.

Essential

Degree, HNC or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering.

Proven experience in setting out civil engineering projects including infrastructure, highways and reinforced concrete works.

CSCS Card.

SMSTS Qualification.

Confined Space Training.

AutoCAD experience.

Strong understanding of civil engineering survey and setting out requirements.

Experience delivering projects with minimal supervision.

Excellent reporting and record-keeping capabilities.

Strong communication skills with clients, site teams and stakeholders.

Ability to challenge designs and drive technical solutions.

Experience in deep water infrastructure projects.

Experience delivering trunk water mains and trenchless construction schemes.

Experience developing and reviewing Safe Systems of Work.

Competent in Temporary Works management.

Experience producing Quality Assurance Plans and implementing quality processes.

Strong short-term planning and weekly work planning capabilities.

Experience managing RFIs and information control processes.
