The role
Our client is seeking an experienced and commercially focused Buyer to join a growing commercial team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the procurement of materials and plant, ensuring best value, quality, and timely delivery to support our residential developments.
This is a key role within the business, working closely with Commercial, Construction, Technical, and Finance teams to ensure procurement strategies align with project budgets and build programmes.
Key responsibilities
Procure materials, plant, and ancillary items in line with build programmes and budgets
Prepare and issue material enquiries and analyse supplier quotations
Negotiate prices, terms, and delivery schedules to achieve best value
Place purchase orders and ensure accurate system input
Monitor supplier performance, delivery schedules, and resolve any supply issues
Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and manufacturers
Work closely with Quantity Surveyors to ensure procurement aligns with cost plans
Identify cost-saving opportunities and alternative products where appropriate
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market trends, material availability, and price movements
Ensure compliance with company procedures and sustainability policies
Skills & experience
Proven experience in a Buyer or Procurement role within a UK house builder or construction company.
Strong knowledge of residential construction materials and supply chain.
Commercially astute with strong negotiation skills.
Experience using procurement systems and COINS (or similar ERP systems)
Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritise effectively
Strong analytical and organisational skills
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
