Representative Duties

The successful applicant will be expected to provide instruction in a full range of Psychology courses. Other duties include:

  • Participation in student recruitment and articulation of transfer programs for the Social Science department;
  • Maintaining subject matter currency;
  • Developing and revising curriculum;
  • Using computer and multimedia technology;
  • Collegial participation in departmental, college and discipline-specific professional activities;
  • Possibility of teaching at other campus sites and in varying schedules (day, evening, weekend) or in distance learning formats;
  • Classes for incarcerated students.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's in psychology

OR - Bachelor's in psychology AND Master's in counseling, sociology, statistics, neuroscience or social work

OR - The equivalent. Certain combinations of education, experience, and other accomplishments may be judged as equal to the stated minimum qualifications. Candidates with equivalent qualifications must request and submit an APPLICATION FOR EQUIVALENCE. Supporting documents must be included with the completed form. AND - A demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions (Title V Section 53406). Any degree from a country other than the United States, including Canada and Great Britain, must be evaluated by an evaluation service.

The screening of candidates will be conducted by a screening committee. The committee reserves the right to limit the number of interviews. Meeting minimum qualifications does not guarantee an interview.

The successful applicant will be broadly prepared with depth of knowledge in the discipline and will be able to demonstrate:

  • Ability to work with students with a wide range of skills, motivations, and goals;
  • Ability to develop curriculum, including multiple modalities;
  • Ability to participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges and universities;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing;
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain subject matter currency;
  • Ability to assess student learning outcomes;
  • Knowledge of computers and willingness to explore new technologies that benefit the program;
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the California community college mission.
