Hair Care Chemist II​/Senior Chemist

Cosmax USA is seeking a Hair Care Chemist II/ Senior Chemist to join our R&I team. This position will be responsible for developing innovative hair care formulations that meet customer requirements, technical specifications, and aesthetic goals. The role involves hands‑on formulation and lab work, product development, technical documentation, raw material evaluation, and collaboration with cross‑functional teams throughout the development process.

We are open to candidates at either the Chemist II or Senior Chemist level
, depending on experience and qualifications. Candidates with 2–5 years of relevant formulation experience may be considered at the Chemist II level, while candidates with 5–10 years of relevant formulation experience may be considered at the Senior Chemist level. The final title and compensation will be determined based on the selected candidate's experience and qualifications.

Salary Range: $72,000–$113,000 annually

• Develop and optimize hair care formulations to meet customer requirements, technical specifications, and aesthetic goals.
• Prepare lab batches and customer samples, evaluate feedback, and modify formulations as needed.
• Review Product Development Requests (PDRs), establish project requirements, and support timely execution of development projects.
• Design and document formulation processes, including raw materials, order of addition, processing parameters, testing results, and product specifications.
• Evaluate new raw materials, ingredients, and technologies in collaboration with suppliers and internal teams.
• Collaborate with R&I and cross‑functional teams to communicate formulation details, project status, costing, and other technical information.
• Maintain accurate laboratory documentation and ensure a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment in accordance with applicable standards.

Senior Chemist-level candidates may also lead more complex formulation projects and provide technical guidance or mentorship to junior team members.

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related scientific field required.
• 2–10 years of hands‑on formulation experience in cosmetics, personal care, or a related industry:
• Chemist II
  : 2–5 years of experience
• Senior Chemist
  : 5–10 years of experience
• Hands‑on hair care formulation experience strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of chemistry, formulation principles, raw materials, and GMP/GDP standards.
• Strong communication, organizational, problem‑solving, and attention‑to‑detail skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced laboratory environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office;
  English fluency required.

For Senior Chemist consideration: Experience independently managing formulation projects and training or mentoring junior team members is preferred.
