Boehringer Ingelheim is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join the Translational Biology Group in the Immunology & Inflammation Department at our US headquarters in Ridgefield, CT. The Ridgefield campus, along with our sister sites in Texas and California, includes a thriving community of postdocs and PhD students that connects globally with their peers on our European campuses.

The main responsibility of this position is to develop advanced, modular in vitro platforms that model autoimmune disease microenvironments, enabling mechanistic discovery, biomarker identification, and translational drug development
.

As a Postdoctoral Fellow, you will conduct independent research under the guidance of an experienced Principal Investigator and a team of experts committed to your success. You will interact with a diverse range of individuals (mentors, fellow researchers, students, and collaborators from various institutions) and help foster a collaborative research environment that facilitates exchange of knowledge and ideas. Your research will focus on fundamental scientific questions and new methodologies that align with departmental goals and contribute to Boehringer Ingelheim’s innovative pipeline.

You will present your work internally and publish in leading journals. Postdoctoral Fellowships are three‑year positions, with a potential one‑year extension.

Responsibilities
  • Design and conduct independent research projects focused on autoimmune disease modeling.
  • Develop and optimize advanced 2D/3D co‑culture systems and organotypic platforms integrating primary human cells and immune components.
  • Leverage omics datasets (bulk RNA‑seq, scRNA‑seq, spatial transcriptomics) to inform model design and validate translational relevance.
  • Define and standardize disease‑relevant readouts (cytokine profiling, fibrosis markers, tissue integrity).
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners across disciplines.
  • Communicate and defend research in team and department settings, both orally and in writing.
  • Publish first‑author manuscripts and/or patent novel technologies.
  • Present findings at national and international conferences.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in immunology, cell biology, systems biology, or a related discipline, with no more than three (3) years of previous Post‑Doctoral experience.
  • Hands‑on experience with primary cell culture, co‑culture systems, or organotypic models.
  • Familiarity with transcriptomics and/or spatial profiling.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and collaborative skills.
  • Ability to independently conduct research and optimize assays/techniques.
  • Creativity and innovation in driving cutting‑edge research with a strong publication record.
  • Compliance with all applicable regulations and SOPs; maintain accurate records.
  • Strategic and tactical thinking abilities.
  • Experience in data analysis and leveraging new technologies to address scientific questions.
  • Exceptional writing, presentation, and communication skills.
Compensation

Eligibility Requirements
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post‑offer physical (if required).
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
Desired Skills, Experience and Abilities
  • Expertise in immunology and tissue biology.
  • Experience with advanced in vitro systems (e.g., air–liquid interface, organ‑on‑chip).
  • Knowledge of autoimmune disease mechanisms and translational research approaches.
  • Ability to integrate multi‑omics data for hypothesis generation and validation.
  • Strong presentation and scientific writing skills.
