Job Summary

A Barnes & Noble bookstore is a gathering place for readers and the community. As a Bookseller, you are an integral member of the bookselling team, welcoming customers, answering questions, and helping them find the right titles. You also play a vital role in maintaining the store’s presentation and ensuring efficient operations, from unpacking deliveries to operating the register with speed and professionalism.

• Use varied technology, including registers, computers, tablets, and programs, comfortably and efficiently.
• Develop strong merchandising skills to maintain the book presentation and store cleanliness.
• Create effective visual merchandising displays for gifting, toys, and other product categories.
• Run the register competently to serve customers quickly and reliably.
• Support the receiving and unpacking of deliveries, ensuring accurate and efficient shelving.
• Find books and products with ease and accuracy, utilizing knowledge, colleagues, Book Master, and available tools.
• Support the café team when needed.
• Understand loss prevention procedures and de‑escalation techniques, identifying theft and addressing problematic behavior.

All work requires physical activity, including prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting, and extensive walking.

As you gain experience, you will deepen book knowledge across categories, improve recommendation skills, and support key sales objectives. Demonstrating mastery of these skills can lead to advancement to Senior Bookseller, offering new challenges and growth opportunities.
