Position: Peer Recovery Specialist, Recovery and Wellness Ridgewood, Temp, Full time, Day

Position Summary

The Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS) supports Valley Health System’s commitment to providing evidence-based, patient-centered care by promoting patient engagement, enhancing continuity of care, and building strong community partnerships. The PRS will engage with inpatient medical detox patients using peer-based support techniques to improve access to and participation in substance use disorder (SUD) treatment. The PRS promotes business development by cultivating and maintaining relationships with local providers to expand access to care and support program growth.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required. CPRS certification or completion of a CCAR Peer Recovery Coach program required. Some college preferred.

Experience

Minimum of one (1) year of experience in peer support or working with individuals with SUD required.

Skills
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and motivational interviewing skills
  • Ability to engage patients in a supportive, non-judgmental manner
  • Knowledge of SUD treatment systems and resources in New Jersey
  • Excellent organizational and documentation skills
  • Bilingual proficiency preferred
  • Driver's License: current and valid driver's license, registration, inspection sticker and appropriate level of insurance coverage required, including collision. Employees must adhere to all procedural guidelines in HR Policy 108 and demonstrate an acceptable driving record for the duration of employment if driving is a responsibility of the job.
