Job Location: Rifle Correctional Center. The eligibility list for this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies in Rifle.

Position Summary

This Correctional Support Trades Supervisor I (CSTS I) is a Food Service (FS) Supervisor in a Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) prison facility. The position oversees the production of meal services for an inmate population which could range from 600 to 7500 meals daily. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: ensuring safety and security of the public, facility staff and inmates;

ensuring efficient meal service including medical and/or religious diets during the assigned shift; supervising inmate work crews in daily kitchen operations; ensuring sanitation and compliance with all applicable regulations, standards and guidelines; and ensuring appropriate use of resources and inventory. The FS Supervisor prepares inmates for community re-entry by promoting the CDOC Mission and Vision with a high level of integrity and commitment.

Safety

& Security
  • Maintain safety and security by training and guiding staff and inmates in key tools and chemical control; perform inmate counts, shakedowns, searches, escorts, movement control, inmate access to kitchen and the proper application of restraints and force.
  • Promote a safe and secure work environment through observation and adherence to agency Administrative Regulations and the Code of Penal Discipline.
Operations
  • Ensure safe, secure, compliant and effective completion of all phases of food service production within a correctional kitchen, including preparation, cooking/portioning, and sanitation.
  • Follow prescribed menus and recipes; instruct inmate workers in proper methods and procedures; monitor progress and ensure accurate production and post-production tasks.
  • Monitor inventory and usage; order products; oversee expenses and waste to maintain efficient use of resources.
Supervision
  • Supervise assigned inmate workers; set work standards; participate in hiring, training, and scheduling; conduct job evaluations; monitor hours and wages; model professionalism and integrity.
  • Provide real-life, meaningful work experience to prepare inmates for community re-entry.
Sanitation & Compliance
  • Maintain sanitary, healthy workplace by following standard food handling guidelines; ensure hygiene rules are followed by all staff.
  • Keep equipment in working order and kitchen clean and sanitized; ensure adherence to guidelines, standards, rules and regulations.
Budget & Inventory
  • Track usage, expenses and waste; monitor inventory levels; place orders and manage deliveries; work within budget and identify waste reduction opportunities.

Position may require additional hours or shifts to maintain meal service and security; work in close proximity to industrial equipment in a loud, busy environment; training includes oleoresin capsicum, self-defense techniques and public safety two-way radios.
