Overview
The adjunct faculty members of Colorado Mountain College are here to assist students in their learning process by utilizing all appropriate staff resources, materials, facilities, and educational technologies available which complement the teaching process. The faculty member is committed to facilitating learning throughout our communities. Although teaching is the most important role, faculty engagement in scholarly endeavors and service activities also serves the needs of our learners.
The college seeks innovative facilitators of learning who are active in the art of teaching and passionate about extending academic opportunities to all students. Colorado Mountain College offers associate and bachelor's degrees with a focus on positive classroom experiences and outcomes. CMC emphasizes excellence in teaching and learning in diverse classroom settings and programs. Successful candidates will demonstrate a passion for dynamic classroom experiences and excellent academic opportunities and student support.
- To teach classes as assigned by designated supervisor.
- To prepare appropriate lesson plans for each course in accordance with approved course objectives.
- To develop and submit course outlines and syllabi to appropriate supervisor.
- To assist with development of measurable course objectives and plans.
- To develop a professional relationship with students and staff that encourages teacher/student communication.
- To maintain accurate course records of students and complete course forms as required.
- Be available for student consultation.
- To assist in the recruitment of students, as appropriate.
- When agreed upon, and as appropriate, to assist in the evaluation of curriculum and instructional performance.
- To represent the college in a professional manner throughout the communities and college district by promoting a positive public image.
- To engage in professional development as required for credentialing.
Minimum Qualifications: Essential duties include teaching course load as assigned, evaluating courses and assessing student learning, meeting established course, program and learning outcomes, complying with guidelines and policies, maintaining office hours per established standards, developing rapport with students, assisting with advising, orientation and registration activities.
Qualified candidates must be credentialed to teach in the specific program or eligible to be credentialed. Examples of ideal qualifications include: a minimum of a master's degree in a specific degree for the position or a Master’s Degree with at least 18 graduate credits in a related field (e.g., business, finance, management, marketing). Minimum of one-year full-time teaching experience, or the equivalent as an adjunct instructor.
Higher education teaching experience preferred.
An equivalent/applicable combination of education and experience to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position is required.
Special Skills or abilities directly applicable to the position include knowledge of pedagogy and teaching experience equivalent to two years; strong background in computers and technology; excellent organizational, office, and communication skills; willingness to learn; ability to research and analyze data; ability to work independently toward goals and deadlines.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) or conversational language abilities are preferred.
This position requires the employee to be a resident of the State of Colorado and perform all work duties within the state. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship.
Working Conditions and OtherThis position may require travel and evening and/or weekend hours. The job may involve constant sitting, occasional walking and standing, driving, handling objects, and various physical activities. It requires frequent reaching with hands/arms, and use of fingers; occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. Work is performed using a computer and standard office equipment, with occasional driving.
