The hiring range for a POST certified candidates is $34.88-$38.64 per hour reflecting education and experience. The maximum wage range for tenured employee Patrol Officers is $51.59 per hour. Please read description in full for requirements and application instructions.
Job SummaryThe primary function of a Patrol Officer is to promote the peace, safety, and well‑being of our community through interaction, education, and enforcement of the law. The Patrol Officer is responsible for delivering police services to the community, answering 911 calls, taking reports, solving problems and participating in community outreach and events.
Applicant must compose and submit an essay (not more than 2 pages) addressing the specific question “Why Do YOU Want to Work at the RIFLE POLICE DEPARTMENT?” Submit the essay to riflehr at the same time you submit your application online. Applications sent without supplemental essay are incomplete.
Experience and TrainingMinimum Education
High School diploma or GED equivalent required, Associates Degree or higher preferred.
Job RequirementsValid Colorado Driver’s License required with acceptable driving record. Must be 21 years of age or older. Must be able to pass a thorough background and credit check, pre‑employment medical exam and drug test, a polygraph and psychological examination acceptable to the City of Rifle.
Special Training or SkillsCurrent POST certification preferred or ability to obtain with 6 months of hire, bi‑lingual English/Spanish speaking applicants preferred, but not required.
