Position: Utility Technician I

Overview

Due to internal promotion, one of our Utility Technician I positions has been reopened.

Position

Purpose:

The Utility Technician Level I repairs and maintains aspects of the water distribution and wastewater collection systems. This position performs laborer and semi-skilled work in order to assist with a variety of water services including shut-offs, meter installs or replacements, pressure checks, sewer jetting, and detecting and repairing water leaks. This position supports the location of water/wastewater utility lines for 811.

This is an in-person position that is not eligible for regular remote work.

  • Repair and maintain aspects of the water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
  • Perform laborer and semi-skilled work to assist with water services including shut-offs, meter installs or replacements, pressure checks, sewer jetting, and detecting and repairing water leaks.
  • Support the location of water/wastewater utility lines for 811.
  • In-person position that is not eligible for regular remote work.
Experience and Training
  • Minimum Education:

    High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Job Requirements:

    Valid Colorado Driver’s License and valid Colorado CDL Class B with air brake and tanker endorsements, or ability to obtain within six months of hire. Safe driving record required for continued employment. Possession of or the ability to obtain Colorado Class I Water Distribution and Class I Wastewater Collection certifications within one year of employment. First Aid and CPR Certifications desirable.

    Must possess Flagger certification within one year of hire. Must attend Confined Space training within one year of hire. Must be able to pass a background check, MVR, DOT physical and drug and alcohol testing with results that are acceptable to the City of Rifle. Ability to work on call, rotating shifts, some nights, weekends, and holidays. Must maintain all licenses.
  • Work Experience in Positions Similar or Related to This Job:
    One year experience in repair and maintenance of water and wastewater system components, including pumping equipment and tanks is preferred. Previous experience working in a maintenance position supporting external customers is preferred.
Compensation and Benefits

This position is full-time, with benefits including Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life insurance, as well as retirement, vacation, sick, and holiday pay. The wage range for this position is $23.67-$26.09, depending on experience and qualifications. This position is open until 5:00 PM on Monday, December 29th.
